3 Signs Of A Good Primary Care Physician

by Clifford Ramos

Everyone needs a good primary care physician who they can go to for basic medical care. There are a ton of doctors out there who have family practices, however, and it can be tough to choose the one who is right for you. Luckily, there are a few things that you can look for to help you find a good primary care physician. If your doctor doesn't have these qualities, then it might be time to find a different practice. Then, you can help ensure that your medical needs are being properly taken care of.

1. Won't Hesitate to Send You Elsewhere

There's a good chance that your family doctor will handle a lot of your care, but he or she shouldn't hesitate to send you to a specialist if needed. If your primary care physician will openly admit that a specialist could potentially provide you with more insight and better care, then you can feel good in knowing that he or she isn't focused on making as much money off of you as possible. Instead, you'll know that your primary care physician truly cares about your needs and ensuring that you get the best healthcare available.

2. Talks to You About the Unpleasant Things

No one likes to be lectured, but if your physician isn't lecturing you, then he or she probably isn't doing a good job. Don't stick with a physician who is afraid to hurt your feelings. It's important for your doctor to talk to you about things like your weight, your diet and your smoking or drinking habits. If your doctor is one who will beat around the bush about such matters, then you might not be getting the medical advice and care that you need.

3. Is Always Available

Although a doctor's office that is hard to get into can be a sign of a good doctor, it's best to choose a primary care physician who can get you into the office as needed. Although you might not be able to do walk-ins with your doctor, you should be able to have an appointment scheduled in a reasonable amount of time. This can help ensure that you get medical care when you need it, not weeks later.

As you can see, there are a few good qualities that you can look for in a primary care physician. For more information, contact Monticello Clinic or a similar location.

About Me

Powerful Physical Therapy

I was badly injured a year ago, and it took a long time to get back to my normal level of ability. One of the things that helped more than anything was the time that I spent in physical therapy. I didn’t always love going to physical therapy – in fact, sometimes, I really didn’t enjoy it at all. But ultimately, the therapists and other patients I worked with helped inspire me to get better, and the exercises facilitated my healing process. I started this blog to talk about all of the things I learned about physical therapy and healing during my recovery time. I hope my blog reaches other accident victims. I want to offer encouragement, hope, and information for people who are in the same boat that I was in.
