Top 4 Reasons To Take Your Child To A Pediatric Urgent Care Center

by Clifford Ramos

As a parent, it can be very difficult to see your child ill or hurt. While many pediatric health issues are not serious enough to warrant a trip to the E.R., there are situations where a child may need prompt medical attention that can't wait until an appointment is available with their own pediatrician. The solution for this issue is a pediatric urgent care center. More and more urgent care centers are designed specifically for children and are staffed by a team of pediatricians. Some of the most common reasons to take your child to a pediatric urgent care center include:

Respiratory Infections

When a child is having any type of respiratory problems, it can be very distressing. Most respiratory issues are caused by upper respiratory infections, which are associated with the common cold. But respiratory infections can cause horrible coughing, congestion, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. If your child is showing signs of a respiratory infection, the pediatricians at a pediatric urgent care center can do an examine, diagnose the problem, and prescribe medication, if needed.

Very High Fevers

A fever happens when the body heats up to fight off bacteria or viruses that are causing illness. Fevers typically are not dangerous, and can usually be controlled with over-the-counter medications. But an extremely high fever in young children, toddlers, or infants can be cause for concern. Extremely high fevers can cause seizures, and a high fever can also indicate a very serious infection that needs immediate treatment. Any time your child spikes a very high fever, it is a good idea to go to a pediatric urgent care center if your child's pediatrician is not available.

Complaints of Ear Pain

Ear pain is a very common issue in young children, and it may be the sign of a possible ear infection. Ear infections can be incredibly painful for children and other symptoms, such as a fever, sore throat, and coughing can accompany an ear infection. When a child has an ear infection, they can be very cranky and may not be able to sleep soundly. It is a good idea to head to a pediatric urgent care center to have your child's ears checked by a pediatrician, such as at Entira Family Clinics, if he or she complains of ear pain.

Strains and Sprains

Children tend to have a lot of energy and int he course of running around or playing sports injuries can occur. With all of this activity comes strains and sprains, and in some cases a sprain can be serious. Strains and sprains are often treated with ice and compression, but depending on the severity, a splint may be needed. Pediatricians at a pediatric urgent care center can provide expert medical treatment of strains and sprains.

About Me

Powerful Physical Therapy

I was badly injured a year ago, and it took a long time to get back to my normal level of ability. One of the things that helped more than anything was the time that I spent in physical therapy. I didn’t always love going to physical therapy – in fact, sometimes, I really didn’t enjoy it at all. But ultimately, the therapists and other patients I worked with helped inspire me to get better, and the exercises facilitated my healing process. I started this blog to talk about all of the things I learned about physical therapy and healing during my recovery time. I hope my blog reaches other accident victims. I want to offer encouragement, hope, and information for people who are in the same boat that I was in.
